RtI: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at all Three Tiers

This session will review the three tiers of RtI with a particular focus on the behavioral practices at each level. Upon completion of this session participants will: 1) understand what RtI looks like in their specific school, and 2) complete a RtI behavioral needs assessments to determine areas of focus for the upcoming school year.

Amy McCart, Ph.D.

Amy McCart, Ph.D. is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas. She is the principal investigator for several federal projects through the U.S. Department of Education to support urban schools implementing school-wide positive behavior support, and is a collaborating partner in the National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavior Intervention and Support with a particular emphasis in early childhood. Dr. McCart worked in the Recovery School District in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, and is currently working with the Oklahoma State Department of Education and District of Columbia, Washington Public Schools. Additionally; she is focused on supporting families in poverty and their young children through agency-focused prevention. She was the site director at an agency supporting individuals with severe and profound disabilities working to improve quality of life. Dr. McCart has over 20 years experience working with children and individuals with disabilities and problem behavior. Dr. McCart is the mother of three beautiful daughters, all of which have done their part to contribute to her knowledge.

Afternoon Sessions



Bully Prevention with PBIS with Dr. Amy McCartThis session will focus on developing systems to prevent bullying and support student social development. A specific training curriculum for students, both elementary and secondary, will be shared and demonstrated.

Ethics: Thom Balmer, M.Div, MS, LPC, LMFT This session includes an overview of professional ethical standards. Thom D. Balmer is an assistant professor in the department of human resource counseling at East Central University.
